Tellurium Dioxide Powder
TeO2, 99% – 99.999% pure
CAS# 7446-07-3
Tellurium dioxide, also known as tellurium oxide (TeO2), is a white powder. It has a high refractive index and high optical nonlinearity. It is an amphoteric substance and therefore can act both as an acid or as a base depending on the solution it is in. It reacts with acids to make tellurium salts and bases to make tellurites.
Tellurium dioxide is used as a catalyst for rubber and for metal surface treatment, and corrosion resistance. Tellurium dioxide powders are used for growing TeO2 single crystal infrared devices and infrared window materials and to manufacture acousto-optic materials. This chemical is also used for fuel cell and solar applications.
It is a conditional glass former, which means it will form a glass with small molar% additions of a second compound such as an oxide or halide.
